What is Circlesinging?
Singing is one of the first things that comes to us as humans - as we figure out speech, we also figure out the music of conversation. We learn the back and forth, we learn word inflections, we learn how to emphasize words that mean more… the same happens in singing. But that’s not the only benefit!
Singing can lift your mood and help boost confidence with hearing your own voice. And once this is in a group with other singers? It get amplified, literally. Singing together helps make faster connections with others, promoting stronger social bonds and making people feel like a part of something bigger than themselves. Group singing can even help regulate heart rate while breathing together.
What about circlesinging? Circlesinging can take all of these benefits even further. There’s nothing to rehearse, nothing to memorize, and no performance to get nervous for - it’s all a collaborative improvisation. Parts are made up on the spot and sung together, helping with a true exploration of playing and exploring with sound. In a literal circle, we only sing for ourselves with each other as we find spontaneous melodies that lock in with each other. Circlesinging is building community through music, not as another team checkbox but as genuine musical fun.
“Do I need to be a good singer?” I hear you asking. That’s the best part! NO! Because parts are all made up in the moment, you have the freedom to copy exactly what you hear, make it even more simple, or come up with your own part that feels like you’ll succeed at it the best. You don’t need to carry a tune, you just have to be willing to try something new every time we sing together.
